One of the reasons i wanted to become an engineer was because of the many oopportunities available for engineers. There is a growing demand in many huge corporation’s for positions requiring engineering degrees. I wanted to become a electrical engineer because it is what interests me.

I also am thinking about doing law after I finish with engineering and become a patent lawyer. There is an extremely high demand for patent lawyers, especially ones with a degree in electrical engineering.

I think the biggest thing I need to build on is strengthening my math skills and sitting down and studying. Once i sit down to study, I usually don’t get up till I am done. The problem is actually getting myself to sit down.

The reason i chose the field of Computer/Electrical Engineering is because it is one of the fastest growing careers in the United States and I believe it will give me the most opportunities in the future. My plans are to gain my masters degree in either computer or electrical engineering and get a job with a major company somewhere around DC. To acheive this I’m going to have to work very hard throughout my college career and try to gain an internship.

My strengths are in mathematics and computers which is one of the main reasons why i chose computer engineering.I also think that I have great communication skills and work well in group activities. These are very important qualities in the world of engineering and I believe that is why I’m going to be very successful in whatever field of engineerig that I choose.

I would like to become an electrical engineer. I am currently majoring in electrical engineering for a few reasons. One I have always been fascinated with electronic things such as computers and robots. During high school I was a memeber of a robotics team, as I have stated in previous posts. I was on the build part of the team and I did alot of work wiht what is called the end effector, but is in essence the part of the robot that works wiht the surroundings. I liked doing this but I was always fascinated by the controls hardware part of the team. Learning how everything was wired and how it worked always managed to fascinate me.

During college I would like to get an internship with a company that allows me to do something wiht engineering, either mechanical or electrical, I really enjoy both of those. I also can not wait for the new engineering building to be finished as this should give us much more resources to learn and experiment with technology as students here at mason. After college I hope to work for a development firm, who is working with robotics. I would one day like to invent a kind of robotic pet that follows you around and does stuff for you, such as get drinks, carry books, or anything else one would like to use it for.

My goal is to become a aerospace engineer, but because this school does not offer this course I decided to become a civil engineer. Well I am going to intern after I get my bachelors degree in engineer. I believe that a degree is great but learning experience puts one ahead. I probably will take aerospace engineering courses because I want to specailize in that particular field. I think that I could get a career working for any major company. I will join various engineering clubs and organizations to help me create a resume. I also will go to career conventions to widen my variety of opportunities .

I need to have great communication skills. I know that i have to talk amongst my co-workers to developed my ideas. I also need great work ethics. I need to be able to work with other people with different personalities. I have to be well organized and professional. I am going to solve and fix problems that will help people in various situations. I want to be technically challenged.

My strengths are collaborating ideas. Using other resources to come up with a solution. Being able to have epiphanies.  I know that gathering information from different perspectives helps me to finalize my decision.I am an open-minded person, I have to choose which method works. In order for me to make a decision, I choose a mathematical system, process of elimination.  I choose which one(s) are able to get the job done better.

“I am not able to see beyond what I have or someone has already seen. I have the notion that everything has been done already, which I know is not true. I do not take the time out to think the impossible because I am busy thinking that it is still impossible. I ask the question “what if,”in my head. I sometimes second guess myself if I have never tried a new method. I like to know and not guess. There is a reason why I like math and not reading. In math there are rules that are followed. When reading one is open to interpret and not know, there is no right or wrong.”

Before I pretty much decided to follow up on electrical engineering after working through some electronics work in middle and high school as well as a few other quirks.  Thanks to the nifty link I managed to get to a nice little cache of information on the GMU Department EE/CpE page that includes some course for various specialties.  What caught my immediate attention was “Microelectronics, Electromagnetics, and Optoelectronics”.  I’m just as likely wrong about the perks of this specialty as I am about holding my major until graduation, but it would appear that this little specialization follows groundwork electronic communications on a hardware level by focusing on applying electromagnetic theory, analog/digital circuitry, optical communications, and so on.  Personally, I would like to work on the hardware and interfacing of circuitry to signals.  If I have this right, and I probably don’t, that takes me a very nice step closer to making a tv remote, or at the least getting things to talk to each other without hardwiring them and being able to limit the signals used in communication.
What would really help me with this is some extra work in physics and trig, especially with emtheory, which I could use in my class, but didn’t fully understand.  It’s impossible to properly use something without understanding it, so some extra work would be really nice there.  While I should be concerned about my human writing and communication skills, I’m fairly certain they will be going under several revisions based off general electives, practice, and whatever foreign languages I choose to learn in the future.  Right now the technical background for any related field is more important to me than the features around it and will become my focus for improvement.

I have not concretely decided which type of engineer I am going to be but out of the two that I have decided upon, the jobs can be similar. Both the mechanical engineers and electrical engineers use computers, mathematics, physics, project design and completion , and problem solving skills to be successful at their jobs. To be any type of engineer you have to be precise in what you do to make sure you don’t make any mistakes. If you do make mistakes what ever you design may not function properly, or even blow up, which would be the cause of you getting fired.
As a mechanical engineer the jobs I may hold may vary greatly. The mechanical engineering has a wide array of skills which make him or her very versatile in choosing a job. I could be anyone starting with the design of a plastic toy made in china, and ending with designing a spaceship for NASA. The skills that I think are required for a mechanical engineer are a good knowledge of mathematics and physics, while knowing how to apply both in practical ways, problem solving, and the great attention to minor details. As a mechanical engineer I would like to work on anything that has to do with me finding solutions for problems. Any jobs that I would like to work at would include working on construction, manufacturing plants, power stations, research and development laboratories, outer space design, etc.

As an electrical engineer the jobs I may hold may be some what more limited than a mechanical engineer, while still vast. As an electrical engineer I would still have to design projects but it would have to do with more electrical things than mechanical. The skills required to be an electrical engineer are very similar to the ones of the mechanical engineer, which include using mathematics, physics, engineering and technological concepts. The electrical engineer will also include some skills that the mechanical engineer doesn’t have like designing electrical circuitry, the use of tools and software for solving electrical type problems. The jobs as an electrical engineer could be working on electrical products, test and fix broken products, overseeing installation of electrical products, use of engineering and design software, and many more. I have not personally decided what I would do if I were to become an electrical engineer but I believe that I would have something to do with designing electrical circuits, electrical wiring, or something of that sort for any company.

I want to be an electrical engineer because I enjoy the hands-on aspect of designing electronics and then building them. Additionally, I’d like to better understand how electrical devices are designed, what makes them work, and how to build something better.

There are numerous opportunities with an EE degree. More and more devices are incorporating electronics, and EEs are needed to design increasingly smaller and more powerful devices. Today, my phone is many more times more powerful than my computer was 10 years ago – something that’s possible due to continual improvements in electronics. Additionally, another area where EEs are needed are in cryptography. Specially designed chips (like FPGAs – Field Programmable Gate Arrays, a form of programmable micro controller) are far more efficient in encrypting and decrypting than “generic” chips like the processors found in computers. EEs are needed to figure out how to better implement cryptography in hardware, as well as how to crack existing encryption even faster.

In order to be successful, I will need to be able to communicate what’s in my mind to something that other people can understand. Without that skill, my ideas are useless to anyone but me, and I’m meerly a guy who knows about electronics. I will also need to be able to motivate myself to work on a project that’s in my head, rather than thinking about it and then forgetting it. This is my biggest weakness, but is something that I will need to overcome while in college to do well in a job.

Electrical engineers have virtually unlimited job oppertunities, as it seems as if everything is incorporating electronics in some way. Strong communication skills are needed, however, to take ideas in one’s mind and turn them into a real product or concept. Without this and other necessary skills, like the ability to motivate one’s self to work on a project, one will be just someone who knows electronics rather than a successful electrical engineer.

Being an engineer is something that has interested me for a while, or more so the computer part of engineering.  I want to be a Computer Science major and if that isn’t in the engineering field then sorry but thats still what I want to do.  Playing around with computer parts either the programing or internal parts has been fun for me since I was little.  I like the idea of working with computer because It has always been easy and fun to me.  I think it helps a lot that I enjoy working with computers and it comes easily to me. The problem I’m going to have is if I have to explain to other people how to do very simple things with computers. it’s always been hard for me to do that.  I would need to learn how to get along with them better and work with them more.  

As for jobs in the real world any job that would be me helping to write programs would make me happy.  I don’t really care what company and there are so many people that are looking for programers that I think I would be ok for jobs. Working for a large company like apple or microsoft would be awesome because i would get to be part of a much larger system. The second best job I could get would be a network administrator. There are always companies that use computers and they would need someone to help set up a network so that they could share files and other information. I will have to look into what I want to do more, doing this writing has made me want to look around more for jobs that I would enjoy working in.

As I have previously stated in earlier posts I want to be an electrical engineer.  In my job I hope obtain the skill to help the ones that have helped me all throughout my life in order to get where I am now.  Engineering has always spiked an interest in me all throughout my life.

I don’t exactly know what I want to do with my degree all I know is that there are many job opportunities for electrical engineers in northern Virginia.  Working in northern Virginia would allow me either to work in the public or private sector of industries.  Also if I stay in the area then I won’t be out on my own right out of college, I will have the support from my family and friends.

In order for me to be a successful electrical engineer I have to work hard in college in order to prepare for my internships and jobs.  Passing all my classes is a must; I have to keep my head in the right place in order to make good decisions.  I also have to work on my public speaking because that’s something that I can see that will prevent me from being successful.  The whole college experience will work on that weakness.  Another weakness of mine is the writing of paper and reports, but that also will be corrected in college.

I still have not chosen which I am going to pursue in engineering. But I guess the one that peaks my interest the most would be an AeronauticalEngineer. I have always had an interest for studying astronomy ever since I first learned about it in fifth grade. But unlike most kids, I did not want be an astronaut and do the moon walk on the Moon; I wanted just keep learning about it. I wanted to know more and more of the secrets of outer space. I wanted be there when something was brought from space learn about it. To me that experience would like opening a VERY anticipated birthday present and getting what i had always wanted. Also with learning about the space, I had a passion for designing things.

I would want be more of a designer than a constructor because I can be more creative and realistic in designing it than constructing it. But that’s one of my weaknesses, my knowledge one constructing isn’t that great. So I would definitely have to work on that. In order for me to be a good aircraft designer, I need learn and educate myself in the constructors point of view as well.

The other thing that I will need to work on is my communication to peers through writing. Wring is something I don’t like doing. I only do it when I am forced to; and even then I don’t do a good job. I am the kind of person who likes to talk to people face to face than through messages especially if i is something important. So I have to improve my vocabulary and learn how to write formally.
