Introductions- June Sri

September 5, 2008

My name is Sureeporn Srikasem, but you can called me “June”. This is my second year in the United States, which I moved to from Thailand. In my junior year, I was in Houston, TX as a foreign exchange student with the American Field Service (AFS) intercultural program. In my senior year, I moved to Arlington, VA because my stepdad came here for work.

I am an electrical engineering major. I am interested in becoming an electrical engineer because of my real dad. He was an electrical engineering professor in Thailand and always brought home things that his students built for me to play with. I had fun with playing these things, but I wasn’t really interested in becoming an engineer until I broke his student’s soccer robot. It looked like a small square car that I could sit in, drive it around, and use a control button to pick the ball up. So I tried it and the robot crashed into the fence and broke into small pieces. My father picked the pieces up and fixed the robot. It surprised me that he could fix something that I think would have ended up in the garbage. He showed me that knowledge from the book is something to be applied. Since I love Physics and Mathematics so much. Becoming an engineer is a great path for me to apply what I love to real life.

Engineering to me is something that i have always been interested in and wanted to pursue sense i was a Freshman in High school. I worked for a contractor and was always interested in how certain build objects where designed and created. Also Engineering for me helps people live easier and better lives through technology. The field that i am interested in is Civil Engineering and would love to major in this field because it ties the building aspect of my life and ease for other peoples use.

Introduction – Rafael Reynoso

August 25, 2008

Ever since I can remember, I was always into video games, electronics, and technological gadgets. If there was a stereo, I’d press all the buttons. Anything that reacts to a push of a button, a joystick, or mouse made me curious. That curiosity is still in me now. For example, I’m currently working on making a bar top arcade machine that will play classic arcade games such as “pacman” and “Mario”. Right now, It is just an old laptop that runs some games and a bunch of buttons plus joysticks that need to be wired together.

When I learned to use a computer, I had found out what made me happy in life. All through middle school and high school, I took all kinds of computer classes to learn everything about them. Engineering is one of my interests because, you can become a leader in technology and you find ways of increasing performance while minimizing size and cost.  I’m not really sure if I want to be an engineer but I’m experimenting with computer engineering and computer science to see which I like best. So far, I’ve worked more with the software side of computers, but I’d like to get into hardware aspect of computers.

Introduction Alex S.

August 25, 2008

Hi, my name is Alex.  I decided on engineering because it is something orientated to my natural skills.  It is a field that I can get my foot in the door easily, because I have many family and friends in the engineering field.  I have decided to study for a degree in computer engineering as this particular aspect of engineering appeals to me the most.  I am very math orientated, fairly outgoing, and computer savvy.  Looking at my hobbies and skills computer engineering seemed to be the obvious choice for me.

Introductions-Michael B

August 25, 2008

Hello, I am guessing that most of you would know my name from the title of this post, but for those who don’t, my name is Michael Buettner.  I am a freshman here, and I am currently undecided in my major.  I am taking this link because I think it will be interesting, and because I want to learn more about engineering.

I do well in math and science, and dislike writing with great intensity.  I hope that the writing portion of this link will help me with this.

Introduction Eric B

August 25, 2008

My name is Eric Burns, I’m from Chesapeake, VA and in my spare time I like to play video games, watch tv, listen to music, or just hang out with my friends. I would also like to apologize up from for my terrible grammar because I suck at anything that doesn’t have to do with math.=]

My family always told me that I would make a great engineer of some sort because of my ability to look at something for about 5 minutes and figure out how it works; which is great because my parents can’t use anything more complicated than a tv remote without calling technical support.

Introduction Desire’

August 25, 2008

My name is Desire’ Bounds and I am from Oklahoma City, OK. I moved to Oklahoma when I was younger so I decided to come to Mason because it was closer to home. Another reason I decided to come to Mason was because it is so close to the D.C. area which means more job opportunities.

I didn’t always want to be an engineer, at first I had wanted to become a lawyer. I didn’t always want to be a computer engineer either it was computer science at first. I was just so confused on which one I wanted to do. I didn’t know which one would be the best one for me. The more I thought about it I thought that I would be better off taking the engineering path. After I decided that I wanted to an engineer I started researching it on my own to try and get a feel for what computer engineers actually did. I also looked up their salaries to see how much average engineers get paid which is another reason to why I’m sticking to this major. After my junior year in high school I just became so caught up in computers it was all I could think about. I am just so fascinated with everything about them. I plan to get masters in computer engineering and hopefully have a very successful job.

Introduction – Jhonny E.

August 25, 2008

Hello, my name is Jhonny Esquivel Gutierrez and I,  like many of  you, want to be an engineer after graduating from George Mason University. I was born in Bolivia and  moved here when I was young. Becoming an engineer has always been a goal for me and I always knew I wanted to be one when I got older. But I never really decided what kind of engineer I wanted to be. Computers have always been interesting to me, it just fascinates me how computers are able to do every they do. I want to learn as much as possible about computers with my experience here at GMU. But I am also thinking about Systems Engineering, I guess I’ll see were I end up by the end of college.

Introductions Heera Jay

August 25, 2008

Hello

My name is Heera Jayachandran. You can call me Heera Jay; don’t hurt yourself trying to say my last name. I am from Fairfax, VA, which is about 10 to 20 minutes away from here. I like to cook and listen to music. I am addicted to music and listen to it 24/7. I am fluent in two languages and I am on the process of learning how to read, write and speak Korean. In the future, possibly after I graduate, I want to travel around the Asian countries, so right now I am working at two places to save up money to travel.

I am interested in engineering because of the good aspects that is involved in this subject. I am planning to major in systems engineering with telecommunications. What got me interested in this course was the idea of traveling the world I guess. One of my uncles works as a telecommunications specialist and he is always going one place or another place. And from what he told me about, it sounded very interesting to me, so I decided to pursue it. I am also interested in Astronomy, so I guess I’ll also be looking into aeronautical engineering. But mainly the idea of space and aliens (And no I don’t mean the little green men with radar guns) and the possibility of finding some other living being who exists with us is something I like to pursue. I really love reading article and things about supernovae and neutron stars.

Introduction Ivan Botov

August 25, 2008

Hello,

My name is Ivan Botov. I was born in Russia and lived there for the first nine years of my life. I moved to North Carolina and then eventually to Herndon, Virginia. I became interested in engineering during the junior year of my high school career. I excelled in physics and decided that I am going to become an engineer. During the senior year in high school I became involved in Robotics at my high school. Almost every part of the robotics team has to do with engineering and it was a great opportunity to get to know many different types of engineering fields. I eventually joined the Inventor part of the team in which I used the AutoCAD program. This was the job of a mechanical engineer. I mapped out the thought process and design of the robot as it was developed throughout the year. I enjoyed doing this and decided that I wanted to be a mechanical engineer.

I planned on becoming a mechanical engineer as my main major, and as an electrical engineer as a minor. I want to do electrical engineering as well because it useful to know both the mechanical and electrical parts of whatever is being designed. I am majoring in Electrical Engineering because George Mason University does not have ME.  I eventually plan to transfer to another university that does offer it and double major in EE and ME.
