Introduction- Nicole

August 25, 2008

My name is Nicole Ongor and I am taking engineering courses  because have a strong background in math.  My mother and the Dean of the Engineering Department  of Howrad University suugested that I look in into the civil engineering field because I was always building and inventing things.  I went home and did some research online about the specific field.  I decided to take robotics courses at  high school before I go to college and declare this field as my major.

The robotics courses taught me how to program and build efficient robots. Ever week I had to different tasks to complete, such as, pulleys, treds, funnels, walking, differinciating color (using lIght sensors),etc. I did not find the class to be easy  but I like a challenges.  Regardless of whether  I completed the  task I would always go back and  When I came to George Mason I was considered undeclared engineer because I was not able to search for course majors in aerospace engineering . I took physics classes as well as astronomy classes, which really sparked my interest in becoming an aerospace enigneer. My goal is to work for NASA and I will achieve my dream!

Introduction- Laurence B

August 25, 2008

My name is Laurence Benson. The reason I want to be an engineer is because I want to be able to make people’s lives easier, safer, and more enjoyable. I want to be the person who thinks differently and goes outside of the realm of general knowledge to take human beings as a whole to a higher level of thinking. I am most interested in chemical engineering, but civil and infrastructure engineering is a very “open to new ideas” kind of engineering which really draws me in. My mother always says that human beings are put on this earth to be happy. One of the most fundamental parts of living is enjoying life itself. I use this advice as a basis for my thinking. I believe that many of today’s problems could be very easily solved with a little bit of outer realm thinking.

Stephen I Introduction

August 25, 2008

Greetings everyone my name is Stephen Iero and I’m from Fredericksburg VA.  Being an engineer  has always been in my future even from a young age.  I always liked to build objects as a child and I want to do that in my future.  My major is Electrical Engineering and I want to go for this particular major because I like to figure out how things work and I also like making things.  I’ve been known around my house for taking items apart and most of the time putting them back together.  I am also the one for math and science and as an engineering dealing with these is a must.

Andrew G Introduction

August 25, 2008

Hello to everyone, my name is Andrew Graham. I’m planning on majoring in computer science, with a chance that I might switch to computer engineering. I wanted to take an engineering class because ever since I was little taking things apart.  It would occasionally cause problems when there would be no pens in the house because I wanted to know what was inside them all. Trying to figure out how things work is fun to me, especially electronics.  I enjoy the programing side to electronics more then the inner workings of the parts they use. I think that knowing about both would be a good thing to do. That’s the main reason why I decided to take this class. (I also don’t think much of english so hopefully this class isn’t going to be as bad as most.)

Introductions – Robert S

August 25, 2008

I am Robert Scullin, and I’ve always been interested in electronics, even when I was a small child. When I was three years old, our family purchased a computer, and ever since then I’ve been messing with technology. I quickly learned how to use the computer, and kept teaching myself how to do new things.

From that point on, anything involving electronics caught and held my attention. Over the years, I learned more about what makes up the components and how devices work, but I’d like to be able to create devices. Therefore, I’d like to become an Electrical Engineer and learn how to design and build many of the electronic devices that have fascinated me over the years.

The slightly more interesting  (and shorter) version of the above is that I just like messing with electronics, and becomming an EE would allow me to design and build even cooler gadgets and devices.

Keya Z.- Introduction

August 25, 2008

Hello. My name is Keya Zarei. I am a freshman here at George Mason University. I am majoring in Systems Engineering. I chose to major in engineering and this particular one because I like to work with other people in designing complex systems and working on projects and problem solving.

I took a couple of engineering classes in high school that caught my attention. We would program, build, and run devices; while working in groups to help each other out and get different opinions.

I have strong math skills that I would like to put to the test and like to work with computers as well. I like to challenge myself in many areas that require thinking above the average person. I believe that working in groups is a great way to understand the situation better because you get other people’s views and ideas; not just your own.

You can also get the work done more efficiently and effectively with more heads then just yourself. In today’s world, the top jobs that bring home the money are the ones that involve computers and engineering. Technology is evolving everyday; and you need to keep up with it to stay on top of the game.

Introductions-David G

August 25, 2008

My name is David Gauntlett, and I am majoring in electrical engineering. I first thought about becoming an engineer back in elementary school. I always wanted to be someone who designed things. At first I was fascinated by buildings, but later became a lot more transfixed with more complex objects, such as airplanes. Today I like working on computers, building circuits, and designing and building robots. I built robots with a team in high school, and I really enjoyed doing that. I worked on the team that built the manipulators that the robot used to move objects around. I always liked designing for this more than the actual building. I soon wanted to try out the controlling of the robot and designing parts for that, unfortunately I never was able to do that, and I am hoping to do a lot of that type of thing in college.

I have always been called a good designer by my peers and mentors. My freshman year at high school my design for the robot was the one that got picked to be built. It was picked over all other people on the team, and since then I have been very confident in my ability to design complex systems, and models to do a certain task.

Working with mentors such as Dave Lavery, the spirit and opportunity rovers on mars, and Mike Wherely I learned a lot about all the aspects of engineering. There are parts that I don’t like, and can’t stand; but the good really out ways the bad. I was able to design and build robots that I actually got to see work.  Seeing something that I spent a lot of time designing and building move and accomplish it’s objective is what engineering is about to me and I look forward to seeing more of that in the future.

Introduction Jonathan Asfour

August 25, 2008

My name is Jonathan Asfour and engineering has always been one of many majors I have considered. My father has his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, and my step father also has a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. Their views about careers and engineering helped me decide to try to also major in a degree in engineering. I am currently majoring in electrical engineering and find it very interesting and am hoping to still find it interesting in a couple of years. I have always wanted to know how things work and engineering seemed like the perfect major to pursue.

Introductions Christopher C

August 25, 2008

Hello, I’m fairly certain you already read my name so fear my introductory sentence.  Now that snuggle time is over and you have a general idea of who I am it’s on to that wonderful assignment.  I found an interest in engineering mostly because it matches with my preferences in science and math as well as a dabble of other subjects and I’m one of the kids that had the fun world traveling military fathers that traded in a commercial pilots liscence for some strange thing known as the draft.  After seeing the things he has done working for the US Army Corps of Engineers I picked up an interest in the field (that and LEGOs, but you never heard that ok?).   My plans are to stick with the electrical engineering path and possible see where I can specialize in there, hopefully working with electronics since most of my personal hobbies have been in that field and I took two years of it in high school with a very favorable outlook on the subject.  You don’t know life until you’ve burned out and LED in a small, (almost) airtight room.
